3 Nephi 20 – Publish Peace

Andrew Bosley

Jesus tells them to not cease praying in their hearts. It reminds me of a verse somewhere that says let your hearts be full of thanksgiving. I can always be thanking God for my blessings, and praying for special needs for me and my family all the time.

He gives of the sacrament again to the people.

Now, there had been no bread, neither wine, brought by the disciples, neither by the multitude;

But he truly gave unto them bread to eat, and also wine to drink.”

3 Nephi 20:6-7

A miracle, like the five loaves and seven fishes that fed 5,000 people in the Galilee. When we partake worthily of the bread and water that has been sanctified, our souls “shall never hunger nor thirst, but shall be filled.” (8)

Am I carefully and intentionally preparing myself to partake of Christ’s sacrament each week, to renew my covenants with Him reverently and humbly, to listen for the Holy Ghost to tell me how to go forth from the meeting and better serve God?

Christ lays the scriptures before them, especially Isaiah’s words, and talks about how all the remnants of Israel shall be gathered in at the fulfilling of the prophesies and “they shall be brought to the knowledge of the Lord their God, who hath redeemed them.” (13)

He warns again that if the Gentiles don’t repent, “the sword of my justice shall hang over them at that day; and except they repent it shall fall upon them…” (20)

Remember, God’s covenant people are those who follow Him into the covenant path of His gospel—baptism by one holding priesthood authority, keeping commandments and covenants we make with Him, and enduring in serving Him to the end.

And behold, this people will I establish in this land, unto the fulfilling of the covenant which I made with your father Jacob; and it shall be a New Jerusalem. And the powers of heaven shall be in the midst of this people; yea, even I will be in the midst of you.”

3 Nephi 20:22

Christ will be among us when we choose Him. His power, majesty, and might will be with us, to help perfect us and make us holy.

Jesus tells them that all the prophets have testified of Him since the beginning. He talks about the Jews.

And it shall come to pass that the time cometh, when the fullness of my gospel shall be preached unto them;

And they shall believe in me, that I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and shall pray unto the Father in my name.”

3 Nephi 20:30-31

When the knowledge of our Savior, Jesus Christ, spreads throughout the people, the following will happen.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings unto them, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings unto them of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion: Thy God reigneth!”

3 Nephi 20:40
  • Am I publishing peace, or am I sowing the seeds of contention?
  • Do I ask myself before speaking, posting on social media, or acting if the Savior would be pleased with what I’m doing?
  • Am I using words and actions to lift others, or judge and tear them down?
  • How can I do better at publishing peace and unity?
