Alma sets the church in order, which is the way of God. (1) He baptizes those who repent and receives them into the church. (2) Those who do not wish to repent and mend their ways have their names taken from the church records.
Now I would that ye should understand that the word of God was liberal unto all, that none were deprived of the privilege of assembling themselves together to hear the word of God.”Alma 6:5
In this crazy world where hate and division is prevalent right now, it is comforting to know that God’s church on earth never discriminates. He wants ALL to come unto Him, black or white, bond or free, privileged or poor. We are all God’s children.
The church members in Alma’s day gather “themselves together oft, and join in fasting and mighty prayer in behalf of the welfare of the souls of those who knew not God.” (6)
We shouldn’t ever think we are better than others because of what we have or don’t have. Alma’s people prayed for those who despised them. Can we not do the same?
When we truly understand what Jesus Christ has done for us, we will want others to share in our joy. The thought of any man perishing because he doesn’t believe or know the truth will hurt our very souls.
After all is right in Zarahemla, Alma left and went to Gideon to declare the truth and set the church there in order, “according to the revelation of the truth of the word which had been spoken by his fathers and according to the spirit of prophecy which was in him, according to the testimony of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who should come to redeem his people from their sins, and the holy order by which he was called.” (8)
Is my life in order, according to the same things? Do I seek revelation to help set priorities and boundaries? Do I seek each day to strengthen my testimony of Jesus Christ and what He has done for me?
What could I do better to set my life in order before God?
