The Book of Mormon shall be “for a standard unto my people.” (2) But many of the Gentiles shall say they don’t need any more than the Bible.
God rebukes them, saying, “Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth.” (7)
God is not a respecter of persons, and where there are any righteous people, He will give them His word. That means there could be more scripture than from just the Jews. The Nephites are a second example, in the Book of Mormon. There is probably other accounts from other nations we haven’t been given yet.
The Book of Mormon was prepared by God for our day. Right now! A humble seeker of truth who reads it with a sincere desire to know the truth, and who prays to God about this book, will be given a witness by the Father. The book promises this at the end of it, through the prophet Moroni.
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.”Moroni 10:4
I add my testimony that this is true. I’ve read the Book of Mormon dozens of times and each day I read and study its WORDS, I pray to God for a witness of it, and I get that witness. Every Time. This book has changed me through its message of repentance. It has brought me comfort during challenging times in my life (losing a loved one to suicide, health challenges, and other afflictions). It has helped me come to know my Savior better and develop a closer relationship of trust with Him. It has taught me more about my unique identity as God’s daughter, helping me know who I am so I am not deceived by the devil’s philosophies and temptations. It has given me an eternal perspective, so that mortality doesn’t feel so daunting at times. The book can do the same for you. If you don’t have a copy, you can order one from HERE.
God declares “that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also.”2 Nephi 29:8
The Book of Mormon does not detract from the Bible; it proves the Bible is true; and vice versa. If additional scripture comes to light, it will prove the others correct and become an even stronger witness of God’s truth.
The Lord does this “that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (9) He goes onto say, “And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished.” (9)
For I command all men, both in the east, and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written.”2 Nephi 29:11
Words are important. The words we read. The words we write. Words open Worlds to us.
- What kind of words am I partaking of in life?
- Do the words I read lift my heart up to God?
- What kind of words am I writing?
- Do they lift others up to God?
And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed forever.”2 Nephi 29:14
God’s words shall be gathered in one someday, as also all those who are His people. That is a great promise to look forward to. But until that happens, maybe I should gather all His current words together to study and treasure….so that I’ll be ready for MORE.
